What is Guarana?
Guarana, also called “guaranine” or “Brazilian cocoa”, is a plant of the Sapindaceae maple family, native to the Brazilian Amazon and Venezuela. Its fruit is small, red in color and contains black seeds.
The special thing about guarana is that its beans are extremely high in caffeine. Indeed, they contain between 2 and 4.5% caffeine while coffee beans have between 1 and 2%. They also have a high content of tannine and xantine alkaloids such as theophylline and theobromine.
In general, guarana is found in powder or pill form, to be swallowed several times during the day, not exceeding the dose of 250 mg per day. Some drinks such as sodas or energy drinks also contain guarana, due to its stimulating and exciting power.
Weight loss assets of Guarana
Guarana is an effective herbal remedy for weight loss since the theobromine and theophylline it contains help curb appetite and quickly increase feelings of fullness.
These actions are stimulated by the presence of its compounds, which are tannins, saponins and flavonols, which delay the absorption of caffeine and prolong its action.
Due to the release of adrenaline that it causes, generated by the stimulation of the nervous system, guarana activates hormones promoting fat burning, to provide energy to the body. Combined with physical exercises, such as walking or running, it thus accelerates weight loss.
Thus, guaranine tones the body as it improves performance in sports and acts as a tonic for the heart. After exercise, it also increases recovery and prevents stiffness.
Finally, studies have shown that this plant helps fight stress and improve mood. A good point for people who are anxious but want to lose weight.

More exciting than coffee, guarana is routinely contraindicated in people with hypersensitivity to caffeine, trouble sleeping or suffering from heart disease, diabetes or high blood pressure.
Caffeine is a diuretic: consuming guarana therefore increases the risk of dehydration if the amount of water consumed per day is not sufficient. Likewise, guarana should be avoided in periods of great heat or after very intense sporting effort.
Some studies have shown that guarana should not be taken in parallel with another product containing ephedrine, or with aspirin or anticoagulants (Warfarin), at the risk of cerebral congestion, bleeding, Myocardial infarction or increased heart rate or blood pressure and increased levels of glucose and potassium.
Also note that an overdose of guarana can cause difficulty urinating, vomiting, abdominal cramps, abdominal spasms, tremors or palpitations.
To lose weight, guarana alone is not enough. It is a food supplement to adopt in addition to a healthy and balanced diet. Its main benefit is to promote fat burning, quickly increase the feeling of fullness, reduce fatigue and provide energy. To really lose weight, you must first and foremost pay attention to your diet every day.
